Demonic Contract - Amduscias
Otherworldly Musical Mastery - Nevio possesses endless inspiration and capability with the creation and playing of musical works. Though there is the matter of art being totally subjective, one may instantly tell that each piece is filled with emotion and power, even if it is not their preference. They are compelling in their own individual ways, and such is enhanced through his playing. This is not even including his natural talent as a musician.
Demonic Cost - As usual with pacts of these sorts, there is always a cost. Given that the summoning ritual itself was poor and shoddy, enacted in desperation, Nevio was willing to give absolutely anything for his hands back. Thus, whenever he plays his music, one listener's soul shall be taken by the demon to Alptraum. If he plays for himself, he will be the soul taken instead. Thus, he must play for a great crowd and only for a great crowd, else he greatly risks losing a life he may value. To prevent from his not playing music at all, if he does not perform during the span of a month, he will be reaped anyways.
A creative above all, Nevio cannot see his life ever being the same without the existence of music, nor his talent. In fact, he'd much rather die than the lose his hands, hence the creation of his demonic contract. Music has created his life, brought him fame, and allowed him to touch the hearts and minds of many. It is a power, he feels, that he was born to use, each note that he scores and plays bursting with emotion and a message. His music tends to lean closer to the evocation of melancholy than any other emotion or tone, but Nevio does stretch his horizons by writing the occasional positive piece. Lately, however, this has not been the case, given the current climate of the world.
He isn't outwardly full of himself, carrying a small amount of confidence, but an even greater amount of humbleness and modesty towards his fellow man. He sees himself as above them, but at the same time, still another droplet of a giant lake. It is an odd paradox that even he acknowledges, and he isn't sure whether or not he is simply shaping himself in such a way that defies his inner, apparently truer, nature.
Even so, he loves people, and he loves the concept of people, beings with hypothetically infinite choices and possibilities available to them. There is a part of him that plays music as a means of providing his listeners a method of escapism, images of alternate worlds and their ultimate potentials as sentient beings. For this reason, despite his greater love for music, a tremendous guilt pangs at his heart; the cost of each performance is a single life from the audience.
Born to humble beginnings in the small town of Aurora, Nevio possessed a natural fascination with music and the keys of a piano. His father was something of a musician, more as a hobbyist than a professional. Every morning would begin with the piano in the living room playing a lively tune that never failed to kick his butt out of bed. Needless to say, this love for music carried on throughout his life. It had become a dream to play just like his father, but to the world, someone who could inspire others in a similar fashion. Of course, fame and fortune were incentives as well.
Sent off to a school in Apri City, the child developed into a talented pianist who could apparently sway the emotions of others through his playing, even when he was not playing his own pieces. Upon his parting, he traveled the continent, building up that very fame and fortune that he desired, seeing sights and meeting the sorts of people you'd never find naturally in Seracier. It was beautiful, and these journeys affirmed to himself that this was the sort of life that he desired.
But, with travel, came risk. On a dark night, as he rested within his Ravanar inn room, a thief burst into his room. Nevio awoke, but far too late that it could prevent the shadow from stealing his coin... and driving a dagger through his hands as they reached to protect it in such a way that the wounds prevented feeling or touch.
The year that followed was absolute suffering. With no hands with which to play or write music, he was left with a dwindling amount of coin and wealth. Yet, he continued to travel, but not for the usual reason. Instead, he sought methods to restore his hands. At the end of this year, he had finally settled toward a solution that he avoided for obvious reasons: a contract with a demon.
Nevio summoned forth a demon of sound, Amduscias, and pleaded with him to 'give back his music', tears running down his face, body prostrated pathetically. The sight amused him, and he obliged, giving to him not only his hands, but even greater ability than before. But, acknowledging his reason for playing piano, he imposed a great cost; that a life will be stolen from an entire audience listening to his playing. He must play for others, else he shall be tortured as a lost soul in Alptraum. No price was too small for the poor man at that moment, and he accepted.
Now, he has reached even greater renown. But, the happiness that Nevio thought this would bring to him had faltered. He loved music too much to stop, and so, he had gained a reputation of his concerts being cursed, that his biggest fan was a maddened demon who'd give to one person the 'gift' of dying to their favorite song.
And the pianist knew that he'd still keep playing, even if his own life was not on the line.
