In a world built upon a foundation of conflict, the past year has been notably violent. As Crux Fidelis, the Crusaders and ruling faction of Sium, suffer heavy losses from a particularly bloody Aphelion, other factions are emboldened to take action. Despite being allies, Weltschmerz's ambitious and duplicitous nature sees them taking bigger risks which threaten to break their alliance. All the while, Apocrypha continues to gain public sympathy and support while the Black Sun Cabal and Poena Damni continue to wreak havoc. As Sium races towards yet another conflict, it’s evident that a war lurks on the horizon.

[*] There is a large and intricate scarification pattern that goes down Emile's back. One who can read the scarring there will understand that it proclaims Emile's status as being one of Angelique's Favorites.


[*] Emile tends to wear more masculine clothing, and favors clothes that disguise her gender, deliberately allowing people to draw their own conclusions.


[*]There is a bitemark scar on the side of her neck that looks as if it was left behind by some kind of wild animal.

Emile carries with her a one-handed sword and a one-handed shield, in addition to a bundled-up net that is carried on her hip, opposite her sword. These weapons have no names, and they carry no special properties. The net, it should be noted, is weighted at the ends, so it will pin down whatever it catches. The fibers of the net are thick and hard to cut through.

[HUNTER'S GRACE] A childhood spent hunting in the small village of Aurora has left Emile with a sense of balance and motion control that is rather impressive to behold. Emile is hard to knock off-balance and she is equally difficult to outpace. Her sense of balance and general agility is exceptional for a human being.


[IMPROVED STRENGTH] Emile, due to her status as a werewolf, is capable of moving things larger and denser than she is. She cannot lift a thousand pounds, but she can rip through a metal wall--it's all relative, and Emile has an easier time tearing through things than she does lifting and throwing, though she can do that as well.


[LYCANTHROPIC CURSE] Emile is a werewolf. When the moon is full, Emile is forced to take on the form of a large bipedal canine-adjacent creature. She has hands and feet almost like those of a human, but most of her body is canid in nature. During this shift, Emile has trouble distinguishing friend from foe. She has further enhanced strength, and her agility is increased as well. Emile's shift is incredibly painful.


[SCENT STRENGTH] Emile can, in her human shape, track the scent of another individual, and can hunt a scent's source for days with just a scrap of clothing.


[SKINSHIFTING] Emile can, at will, change herself into an oversized quadrupedal wolf, slightly smaller than a horse in height at the shoulder. Much like her forced shift, however, this is incredibly painful for her.


[BODYGUARD] As a once-bodyguard, Emile is in peak physical condition, able to hold her own in combat. She is also adept with a two-handed sword, a one-handed sword + shield combination, and a trident + net fighting combination. These are all that Emile is trained in.


[KINDLING] The only magic that Emile knows, and she doesn't quite grasp how she knows it. Emile is capable of bringing fire to her hands, letting the skin take on the appearance of embers. She cannot project the fire onto other things, and can only burn the things she touches. Emile mostly uses it for light in the darkness.

personality/fun facts
[*] Emile is mostly illiterate, which is why she requires verbal contracts for her work. She can recognize some written signs, but on the whole does not grasp reading and writing.


[*] She ... doesn't really want to go back to Aurora, nor does she want to go to Ravanar ever again. She'll do both if she has to, but there's a fear of being recognized.


[*] When it comes to flight/fight instinct, Emile has a very bad sense of 'flight'. She prefers to fight her way out of a problem until she has to flee for her own survival; running is really an option only if she's going to die otherwise.


[*] Emile has a quiet appreciation for the arts. She wishes she were good at softer things, such as painting and singing.


[*] Emile's a lesbian. She has no interest in romantic encounters with men, and prefers women softer than herself, though she's very much the slow-burn type.


[*] She's got a bit of a fear of getting any better with her magic. She has a moderate presence of Sillage, but has only really been able to manifest it in one particular form.


[*] Emile doesn't like to mention her lycanthropy, which really just causes more problems than its worth.


[*] She has a strange obsession with personal honor, likely because of her sordid backstory. Emile does not like being 'dishonored' or spoken badly of--it tends to send her into moments of high rage.


[*] While Emile has a long fuse, once that fuse snaps, she's a rather vicious and wild creature.


[*] Emile is currently torn on what to do with herself. She wants to be something greater, but she is cautious about actually getting involved in any of the factions available to her.


[*] While she lives a solitary lifestyle, Emile is touch-starved and aches for meaningful personal relationships. She has to put this up against her lycanthropy and her desire to keep herself safe from being manipulated or used again. Ultimately, Emile is prone to making bad decisions if she thinks she will gain a meaningful relationship out of it.


[*] Has a tendency to obsess over people once they like her enough, or she likes them enough. Not in a harmful sense, but in a sense of will I cause this person harm, or things along that line.


[*] That said, she'd die for someone that she's close to, without question.

backstory
[*] The awkward middle child of a family in Aurora. Basically promised to marry some richer hunter's son who was born around the same time, to unite the families and bring their gathered wealth together.


[*] Though travelers were rare, a rich woman from a place she called "Ravanar" passed through on her way to another destination. This woman, Angelique Kainen, made a deal--she could provide a better dowry than Emile's parents had ever considered asking for, and she spoke of a son back home. Emile was sent off with her.


[*] There was no son. Instead, Angelique kept Emile close by her side, teaching the girl how to fight and be a bodyguard until she came of the proper age of eighteen--and then something else was added to her list of duties around the home.


[*] Emile performed all sorts of unsavory things on Angelique's behalf, acting in her interests.


[*] Aphelion proved a fruitful time for Angelique to dispose of who she wished. Angelique could not use magic. Emile had a little trace of it, and so she was thrown into a room with a group of people Angelique despised; coming out of the rage, Emile was horrified and fled the home.


[*] Somewhere in the night, she was ambushed by a creature that wounded her gravely but left her alive; the next full moon, Emile was robbed of her senses and discovered great wounds across her body. All of these healed entirely save one on her neck.


[*] After a particularly awful night with Angelique, Emile stole her weapons and fled. She was 25 at the time.


[*] She has wandered for the last four years, aimless, wondering if she should join a faction or at least try to become something greater than a scared woman with weapons and a gruesome snarl.
