Momotaro Onzai - B-Project
Shen keeps four stiletto knives on his person at all times. They are nothing fancy in terms of appearance. He likes to stand out, but on the off chance someone was able to remember bits and pieces of an attack, he doesn't want an easily distinguished weapon. anyone can have red hair or one red eye. Only one or two people are going to have a bright red and gold knife with his name written on it like he originally wanted. Instead they are plain black with silver blades.
-Given who his father is, Shen gained some of his abilities. He inherited a strengthened body. He can endure more than the average human, but the most notable boost he has is his speed. If he wanted to he could go completely unseen to the regular human eye.
He also has the same ability to sense family members as his father. He's only met a couple of these people, and he doesn't know how to explain it. He just knows they are different from regular people. Shen doesn't know they are related, instead chalking it up to they are just alike mentally.
-Shen has the power to mess with the memories of anyone he comes into contact with. He can alter memories, implant memories, and erase them entirely. He just has to place his hand on the back of their neck, which is when his speed comes into play.
However, his memory erasing ability has one constant effect. People forget about him very easily. Unless he really makes an impact on them they will forget about him in a matter of days. It doesn't matter how much time he spent with them. It could be years he spent with them. They'll have no recollection of him unless they held strong feelings.
On the other hand, if someone has a strong mind or strength well beyond his own, they will remember him on some level. On the rare occasion some people have actually remembered his name, though they don't know to much about him at first glance, but the memories slowly come back. In theory it is possible for someone to remember him perfectly if they cared about him enough (for better or worse) or if their power surpassed his own enough. He's looking for people just like that.
-He can only get so far using mind games when it comes to his work. Shen also has the ability to create thin wires made up of pure sillage. They are hard for the naked eye to see, so it's easy to assume he can just move things with his mind. In reality these wires are just extremely strong and can lift massive amounts of weight to toss around or can stop something in its path be weaving together to create a wall of sorts.
Shen says he wants to be alone, but in all actuality that terrifies him. But then he also doesn't want to risk the chance of making them forget him by accident. So he's trapped in a loop of pushing people away while trying to get close to them. So instead he finds other ways to make an impact. Shen typically has a snappy attitude to make up for how much he feels like shit about his entire existence. He picks fights and dresses flashy so people will notice him. He always smiles, if nothing else than to be smug. Disliking him is a strong enough emotion to be somewhat memorable.
If it isn't clear, Shen is somewhat stuck in his angsting teenager phase. He looks for people to feel sorry for him, but then ridicules them for pitying him. He's Shen Mother Fucking Ruan. Who are you to feel bad for him?
Shen was never told about who his father was. As far as he knew his father was the same as his sister's. His mother was happily married years before he was born, so the idea that she had secret relations with a certain Peacock Demon never crossed anyone's mind. He was raised quite normally in a rather large town where he got along with people well enough and enjoyed his time with his sister.
Things began to get strange one he turned twelve though. People he had been friends with for years forgot him over the course of the summer while he was traveling with his father. They weren't close friends, but they definitely knew him. How could they forget his red eye? that was supposed to be a big deal, right?
Sure enough though as he got older even more people had a hard time remembering him. At one point even his parents forgot bits and pieces about him after he went for a camping trip with his sister.
No one understood what was happening, but Shen was convinced he was fading out of existence, so he clung to the one person who hadn't forgotten anything, his sweet little sister. It could have been called an obsession, but he stayed by her side as much as he possibly could, and for a while that was fine. But after two years of exposure to Shen's unknown power, his sister finally broke. Without meaning to he erased all of her memories from one little touch. She didn't know him, where she was, her own name.
In complete panic she just ran, looking for any signs of who she was. It was a sudden shift, but Shen chased after her, not knowing what was going on until she began to shout questions, clearly scared of him. Before either of them knew it she backed right of a cliff side, plummeting to her death.
With no idea of what to do, Shen just fled. He didn't know what was wrong with him, but he knew he couldn't do that to anyone else. He ran from town to town, surviving off scraps without anyone acknowledging him. He was positive he wasn't actually a person over the next few months. But he refused to accept that? How could he accept that?
So he decided to make himself known. The only thing he could think to do to get noticed was make some kind of display, so he attacked the first group he could find. It turned out to be a group of hallowed, which didn't turn out well. He thought it was doable since they seemed younger, maybe a little older than him. He had been getting all kinds of weird powers, so he thought he could do it. When it was apparent that wasn't the case he had fled, knowing full well no one would remember long enough to chase him.
Still, Shen refused to give up. He'd start small. And that was when he began to hunt down people with bounties. He wasn't a great fighter, so he found it was just best to kill whoever he was after quickly, or make them forget when he failed and try again a few days later. Bounties grew into people seeking him out. No one that hired him remembered him, but they knew how they contacted him, sending a letter to a certain hotel in the desert.
Since it was related to Shen the hotel owners forgot they were his address so they always threw the letters out, claiming it was some sick prank that had gone on for years while Shen crashed rent free and got his jobs there. You couldn't kick someone out for not paying for years if you didn't remember when they even showed up. It was a pretty good cover. All he had to do was dig through the trash every now and then.
It was years later, after he had grown much stronger and figured out how to better control his power, when he received an interesting job. Someone wanted some guy named Soren dead. Shen never questioned why he was sent after people, but when he found out this guy was a Commander her was a bit curious. He decided to greet the guy and figure out what made him so bad.
Needless to say he wasn't greeted kindly when he just approached him on the street. But there were three things that really stood out to him. He looked a little familiar, he felt really familiar, and Shen looked a little familiar to him. Someone had actually remembered him just a little bit.
Shen left it there that day, digging through his memory for the next few days until he placed that face. It was in that group of hallowed he had attacked years before. And he still knew that he had seen Shen before? It was absolutely insanity.
From that point on Shen changed. He started to try and stand out more, seeking out anyone that might be able to hold memories of him. He made an effort to be a bit sloppy and see where it got him. He never put himself at real risk, but he just had to know.
Not to mention he developed an attachment to Soren despite not seeing him face to face since that day. He just kept eyes on him from time to time... Weekly at times. If he was ever caught by someone he just erased or altered their memories. There was no way Soren could be told about this.
