Practice of Sedition
In a world built upon a foundation of conflict, the past year has been notably violent. As Crux Fidelis, the Crusaders and ruling faction of Sium, suffer heavy losses from a particularly bloody Aphelion, other factions are emboldened to take action. Despite being allies, Weltschmerz's ambitious and duplicitous nature sees them taking bigger risks which threaten to break their alliance. All the while, Apocrypha continues to gain public sympathy and support while the Black Sun Cabal and Poena Damni continue to wreak havoc. As Sium races towards yet another conflict, it’s evident that a war lurks on the horizon.

Marty threw an inquisitive look at the bunch of men who sat around him while they played a hand of cards. They had a sneer on their faces, which he quite liked about them, they all read like children’s storybooks simple. With every smirk on their lips, every nervous fidget, was a tell and this group of men seemed to be having trouble containing themselves as they played. Of course, having grown up in Ravanar he was familiar with this gang of vandals: one was an old friend, another a retired mercenary, next to him a father and husband with a bad habit of popping up in shady inns. Each had something interesting about them, but the most interesting thing to Marty was the money that riddled their pockets. This group, they were a good bunch, they all knew him before he joined the Cross’ shadow, but friendships were nothing without hostility~ One of these men had it in for Marty, a deep seated grudge… They knew what he had done to Liam some few years ago, though that was only the first thing in the pile of tools Marty had provided, with which they would carve their latent dislike for him. His leaving of his parents probably aided in any further dislike.

Additionally, maybe word had spread, that he wasn't as shaken by his brother’s passing. It was just in his careless nature, something in sync with most murderers. Casualties were apart of life in Ravanar, why they judged him for one mercy killing was beyond his comprehension. These people definitely had a part to play in the murder rather they knew it or not, they knew full well he wasn’t fit for Crux, but they let him go anyway without a second word to his parents. “I’ll call this round boys.” he slid his cards onto the table, “One lass, her daddy, her brother, a ten and an A for all of the marbles, or as you know it, a royal flush.” he laid his cards down, with a confident smile. Let it be known he had never played Poker before today so he was partly fuzzy on the rules. The men around him groaned and tossed their cards down.

“You just can’t call like that.” one growled, the others agreeing.

Marty nodded, “I see, well, too bad I win anyway right?” he was certain that was how Poker games were played.

“Hmph, just like a murderer to wanna get over on others.”

“Hey, hey, I didn’t kill anyone. I liberated him from his indentured servitude”

At that the other three would stand up and loom over the table, the club seeming to stop on a dime around them. In truth wasn't sure if she had it in him to fight them, or to give them the satisfaction of having him admitting what he had done, everything he told them was in alcohol led confidence.

He cleared his throat, “Okay, now I know you guys are mad about the money but… TABLE.” he stood up and flipped the table onto them, given his ever boosting strength he had managed to have it on the very least land on the centerman before he darted out of the door vandals in chase. Darting out of the back way of the club Marty had bounced about the alleyway into the streets of Ravanar. It seemed he had been playing cards longer than he thought as darkness blanketed the once blue sky. Regardless of time of day he turned to his right and made his way for salvation just before… ‘THUD’ the sound of clashing bodies filled the air before the rebel would fall to the ground.

“Well that’s smarts…” he rubbed the back of his head, “You gotta be more careful-” he paused as he checked over his shoulder, looked like his friends had caught up with him, “Hey help me with this?” he looked to the person he bumped into and offered a hand had they fell with him.

The two men were large, the former mercenary standing at a lumbering 6’5” his frame bulky and intimidating, the other was round in size, his height nowhere near the other, though what he did not have in height he had in width as he was a whopping 350 lbs. A knife was pulled by the tall man, “I’m gonna disembowel ya if you help this rat.” he threatened the stranger.

What Rouvin was doing in Ravanar was something he himself began to wonder too. Initially, he was trying to find more traces of his father, and those trails had led him to Ravanar of all places. It wasn't exactly a place that Rouvin wanted to remember in particular, memories of accidentally wandering with Reinier and ending up there wasn't a pleasant memory in the slightest.

As he continued walking, he caught wind of some yelling and a crash from what looked to be a casino house. It wasn't really his business snooping around and trying to fight crime since it didn't really involve him, so he kept on his way until a familiar face crashed into him. "Oh. You're that guy from base." he simply said, staring at him as he asked for help, to which his attention was directed towards two men who were big in their own ways.

"Wow." he simply said in stark disapproval, "Threatening me is one thing, but going two on one against a dude with no weapons? That's pretty shameful." He drew his sword, and snapped his fingers, creating several more swords of fire behind him. "Tell you what, I'll take his place, and if you manage to kill me, you can go kill him." And as soon as he finished, he made a quick dash towards the taller of the two, aiming to cleave a side slash into the man's midsection. Directing his free hand, the fire swords spun and surrounded the bigger man, pointing right at him.

"Well? Still think you have this?" he asked, a glare in his blue eyes.

Marty beamed a wide grin when the stranger recognized him! Yes! An ally in all of this hooting was exactly what he needed right now! “Yes! The base! I was there not long ago.” his heart was at ease, though what came soon after took him by surprise. Not long after the taller of the two males made his the icy-eyed eyed other had spring quick into action. Marty made a ‘peep’ as a large, grotesque wound had slashed across the former Mercenary’s midsection. There was a howl of pain before a ghastly wail, the male collapsing into a puddle of his own mess.

“Shit…” the sight of blood painting the area made the raven-haired rebel crack a smile. The large man, in reaction, fumbled with something in his pocket as his friend had been so effortlessly dealt with. Just as he had managed to spring up a blade of his own he had found himself to be in a hellish cage of steel surrounded him. He fumbled his words as his heart began to race.

“N-no, you can’t do this, we were defending ourselves, please, please, I have a wife and three daughters.” he shakily tried to reason with his captor, though all he could see what fire as he felt himself heating up. He tugged on his collar, “Please, Marty isn’t anything but a murderer, we just wanted to. No, we don’t got this, we don’t got this, for the love of the gods we don’t got this.” he cried, the large man was rambling on and on in fear as the roles began to change.

Whilst all of this unfolded Marty watched with the same inquisitive expression he had during the poker game, his arms were folded and his right thumb and index finger cupped his chin as he watched his ally go to work. “Phew, things are heating up.” he rubbed his forehead, as the orange vibrancy of the flames made his eyes sting.

‘You know, you could benefit from that sort of efficiency Martin, the clean cut across the abdomen, the fire sword, this young man seems to have an eye for dealing critical blows against enemies mentally and physically.’ Amon’s voice rang in Marty’s mind.

“It’s Martin, and what’re you talking about? I get along just fine punching.” he spoke aloud before realizing he had been using his outside voice to speak to Amon, “I mean, man you are awesome! You gonna roast him? I am in the mood for roast pig~”

Keeping the blades in air and pointed at the large man, Rouvin flicked the blood off his sword before walking towards him, seemingly unfazed by the flames or the heat. "Wife and daughters, huh?" he said quietly under his breath. Thinking back on it, he and Reinier were once children too, their mother only barely being able to handle the two of them without a father figure in their life. Would the man's daughters turn out the same way too?

Commanding the swords to back off slightly, Rouvin commanded the man, "Tell me what happened in the casino and what you mean by a murderer." He sheathed his blade and crossed his arms. "Having a father figure for your children is important. If possible, I'd like to avoid harming you but you must tell me what's going on."

His attention was briefly turned back towards his acquaintance, seemingly talking to himself. Perhaps it was a demon contract? There were many in Apocrypha with one, Reinier himself once asking for Rouvin to be his contracted demon to which Rouvin flatly declined, saying that it would be weird. "I won't roast him unless he shows signs or trying to harm either you or me. If he truly has children, then for his children's sake I won't do anything to him." he said firmly.

The blades were so beautiful, fire was beautiful, wasn’t it? The angry, destructive force of flames was a teasing mistress, it could be manipulated into killing almost anyone, it could destroy homes, collapse empires, sear the strong alive if they weren’t careful. A fire didn’t care who it burned, who it cooked~ Regardless of who you were it would burn you and it would kill you without so much as a hello. It had no will, it only roared on and on until someone put it out. In this case, fire was being manipulated by a man who sought something Marty hadn’t thought of since slaughtering Liam. Mercy. .

For now, Marty would keep his mouth shut, one was dead and that was enough for him. The other, well, he was going to think twice who he threatened now regardless of if he lived, died, or became a nice three-course meal tonight. “Aye, in the casino he beat me and my mates at Poker twice without havin’ ever played! We called his bluff and he mocked our honor so we had to set him straight.” the caged gent nodded to himself as if he was confident in what he was saying, “After that he flipped a table on us when we were about to confront him and by murder we mean what he did to his brother.” there was a smile now, an unpleasant one but even more confident than the words he spoke, “He ki-”

“I killed my brother not long ago, I admit this, he attacked me when we were having a meeting discussing issues of the Cross, there was a disagreement he drew his weapon and I was forced to handle him.” Marty had broken into the victim’s story, “May not have been right, but he had gone mad about his mission, threatened to burn down Ravanar himself if he could get rid of what he called ‘filth’.”

Hopefully, his little speech got him some traction here, he hated talking a lot especially since he got winded after more than ten words.

“That- that ain’t all Ser, you’ve got to believe me, this man killed his brother and- and, my sons would never approve, had my wife and daughters not perished from the hand of a family member of ours I’d not have been so angry he even uh, he even slept with Ted's wife.”

Rouvin nodded, listening to the fat man's explanation. Apparently it had been some poker game gone wrong, which wasn't exactly the most surprising in Ravanar. Stuff like that happened all the time anyways, so there really wasn't an explicable reason to arrest someone or pass judgment on them for poker.

That sounded stupid.

His head turned back to his companion when Marty began to explain himself about killing his brother. Rouvin gave it some thought; would he and Reinier have turned out this way? He didn't give it much thought before, and decided there really was no good reason to anyways. That scenario didn't happen so everything was pretty much fine.

A look of confusion spread across his face when the man mentioned his sons. He had sons now? And apparently his wife and daughters were dead or something? And then something about Ted just confused him more and he groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Look, I don't know who Ted is, nor do I care. This man works with me, and so if you have a problem with him, you have a problem with me." The fires disappearing, Rouvin sighed. "I'll let you go for now, but should you bother us again, I won't show any more mercy."

Well, it wasn't exactly flaying the guy alive and making him see his own entrails, but hey it was scary all the same. Though, the whole mercy thing was kinda uh, kinda odd? Sure, Marty didn't have to kill every person who crossed him but where was the fun in letting the guy live? They could have killed him in a multitude of ways, for instance making him dig his own grave and burying himself all in the same go! That'd teach him.

He scratched his head and watched the portly male scramble away with his life despite his ally having been badly wounded. For the most part, Marty was thankful, but before thanking his savior the dark-haired male loomed over the remains of Ted and put two fingers against his temple, he couldn't tell if he was dead or not, it didn't quite matter. "Welp Teddy boy, I'll tell your wife you went down swinging." he'd chuckle patting the wounded mercenary on his balding head.

"I gotta say, you're a life saver, had you not come I probably would have killed those two," he looked back at the other male with a smile, "Though, I'm a bit confused, you don't seem the type to hang around the city of sins, unless you've taken up whoring, drinking, and beating up on bums." he gasped, "You came to hang out with me didn't you?" he beamed with a smile.

Help Your Fellow Man

What a coward, turning tail immediately instead of checking on his companion. Were people in Ravanar always so spineless? Perhaps. Especially if just looking at a multitude of flaming swords made the man lose his composure, the other man unable to defend himself after boldly declaring he would kill Rouvin himself.

Oh how he wanted to die. He couldn't exactly figure out how to though.

Rouvin sighed as his companion went to check on the likely lifeless male. So that was Ted? How unsightly of him to have left his wife at home as he indulged himself without her. It reminded him of his mother who confidently, though foolishly, assumed that Cadmus would ever return to father his children.

His companion soon sang words of thanks as Rouvin turned to face him. He crossed his arms as he listened to Marty continue to talk about what kinds of people visited Ravanar, as if he didn't know already.

The last sentence came out of nowhere, yet wasn't exactly unprecedented. Ignoring the positive energy that Rouvin could only describe as less tolerable than probably Radek's, he sighed. "I wouldn't ever hang out with anyone out of my own volition. I'm only passing by this place. I'm searching for two people. One of which is my brother who recently went missing. The other is my father, who I need to ask questions about." he answered. He left out the part about settling a score with him, but it really wasn't any of this man's business. The last thing he wanted was some outsider to get involved in family affairs. Arms remaining crossed, he said, "It's not really much of your concern. I doubt you'd be able to help me in that department."

Marty's lips curled into his usual award winning grin as he looked the other male up and down. He knew this guy alright, he was one of the other members of those who walked out of the light of the Cross, he was another one of those who likely had a pact with a demon. Marty did not particularly know him personally but given that they were on the same side it is a fair assumption to make that he had seen him around their sporadic home fronts and headquarters. Why he helped him, it was likely out of duty, but regardless of the reason, Marty would still shine his toothy grin and bow.

"I must say it sounds like you're on quite a journey, I've not had much interaction with my family or brother in a hound's age." he rubbed his chin once again the bristle-like strands of hair on his person being grazed by his fingers, "Hmm, that said I think I could help you if you let me, I'm from here after all and I know some people, maybe those you're looking for have passed through my usual hang out spots but don't worry if I see your brother I won't do to him what I did to mine~"

He spoke the last part jokingly, sure, being called the 'Kingslayer' was nice but he hadn't killed a king, he merely killed his brother. Though, the nickname stuck well with the contortion of what happened between he and Liam becoming more and more skewered with finely peppered details.

What he did was a sin, what he did, led him to his new home, but what he did should not have had such a profound effect on those he met. Or, more so, those he once knew. Killing his brother was a crime, but why he did it should have made him somewhat just. Still, he digressed in his thoughts.

Folding his left arm behind his back and curtsied to his superior, "I assure you I can help you at the very least continue to form whatever trail you have, someone like you wouldn't come to the Raven less you had reason fine reason and a lead."

Help Your Fellow Man

Rouvin let out a small, quiet scoff. "Have it your way." he spoke before turning on his heel and heading towards a bar. "First thing's first is the location of my brother. He often goes drinking, and Ravanar is known for their bars. If he did end up here, there is a good chance something turned into an ugly bar fight." Rouvin explained to Marty, not turning back to make sure the man was following. He was annoying enough, so that was definitely a no-brainer.

Putting his immediate complaints aside, Rouvin stopped in front of what appeared to be a luxury bar at first. He soon ducked into the alley beside it and turned to face a shoddy and clearly more ominous and dark bar.

"Should things turn south here, don't hesitate to defend yourself. Ask around for information on Reinier Pyrus and if that does not appear fruitful, ask for information on Cadmus Pyrus." he said before kicking down the door unceremoniously. As if that didn't already make him appear suspicious.

The bartender, a tall, gruff man, likely in his 60s demanded, "Ya gonna spill why ya kicked da door down?" To which Rouvin simply rolled his eyes. "I'm looking for two different people. I'd like to interrogate each person currently present in the vicinity." he explained nonchalantly. He signalled for Marty to join his side and continued. "We're simply here to ask if you've seen a shorter statured man with long purple hair and usually drunk. That or if you've seen a slightly taller man with golden hair and wanders often."
