Practice of Sedition
In a world built upon a foundation of conflict, the past year has been notably violent. As Crux Fidelis, the Crusaders and ruling faction of Sium, suffer heavy losses from a particularly bloody Aphelion, other factions are emboldened to take action. Despite being allies, Weltschmerz's ambitious and duplicitous nature sees them taking bigger risks which threaten to break their alliance. All the while, Apocrypha continues to gain public sympathy and support while the Black Sun Cabal and Poena Damni continue to wreak havoc. As Sium races towards yet another conflict, it’s evident that a war lurks on the horizon.

Manners Maketh Violence
Crimson eyes watched in annoyance from the interior balcony as people milled about on the ballroom floor below. It was a writhing mass of pompous nobility and egotistical cretins who were struggling to not drown in their own self-importance. How they managed to even walk about without even tripping on their own self-worth, Ophelia would never know.

It was strangely irritating to think that absolute nobodies could think of themselves so highly. Yes, they maintained some form of nobility but it was all for nothing. At the end of the day, so few of them would actually amount to anything. So few of them would actually be useful or have any legitimate worth.

It was a pretentious and malicious way of thinking, but it was somewhat fitting for someone like Ophelia. Most of the time, she would be amused by the spectacle. Usually she would find... Entertainment in the way they carried themselves, as if they could ever hold a candle to one such as herself or her fellow Sins. As if they could ever compare to those who truly mattered.

But, somehow... She was in a less than pleasant mood.

Well, she knew exactly why.

The white suits stuck out like sore thumbs as the Hallowed slithered their way throughout the nobility. They were on the prowl - searching for reported Apocrypha Rebels at the ball that Ophelia was throwing. They were inserting their petty squabbles into her party and she didn't take this kindly or lightly.

She had prepared and prepared for so long... And these... Arrogant imbeciles sought to disrupt the festivities! It was actually infuriating, but it wasn't all that bad. A week before the party, she had spread word of it among the other Sins, inviting them to take part. She had been quite upset when it seemed like no one cared or had any interest, especially Onyx who was callously dismissive of her invitation.

But, she had been happy when Yasmayn had arrived, the presence of the Sin of Greed providing Ophelia with the reassurance that her planning hadn't been all for naught. The ball wasn't just to bring several noble figures together to mingle, but rather to give Ophelia a chance to better bond with her fellow Sins. There were so many she didn't know and she had sorely wanted to change that, but the opportunities seemed so few.

Everyone was always busy and it actually made her a little... Sad. Though she would never admit such a thing.

Sighing, she pushed away from the railing she had been leaning on, the annoyance slipping from her face as a smile quickly replaced it. The balcony had a small table set up, per Ophelia's last minute request, which she had led Yasmayn to. Instructing her to sit there, she had ordered the chefs and the waiters to supply the Sin of Gluttony with an almost never-ending supply of food. Because, as far as Ophelia was concerned, the Sin of Gluttony should be allowed to over-indulge.

"I hope everything has been satisfactory so far. I requested some of the most talented and highly acclaimed chefs cater this ball, after all." She said, beaming brightly at Yasmayn. Despite the age difference, there was a part of Ophelia that genuinely wanted to impress Yasmayn, if only because she was a Deadly Sin.

Overjoyed. There was simply no other way to describe the feeling that had coursed through the veins of the child-looking sin when she received an invitation to a fellow sin’s party. Although she didn’t recognize the name on the invitation - she didn’t know the branches very well - she had accepted the kind gesture. She was trying to get to know her siblings outside of the deadly sins better and this was definitely the perfect opportunity to do just that. If she was lucky, then a whole group of sins would show up to the event and she would be showered in their sinful presence.

So, she had been just a little disappointed to arrive and find that she alone had accepted Ophelia’s invitation from amongst her kin. The rest of the partygoers were humans and though she had no issue with them - she was friends with several of them - it did little to brighten her mood. However, her sister managed to cheer her up relatively quickly, the embodiment of gluttony being allowed to consume as much as she pleased at the table she had been led to. And, with gluttony having received few opportunities to indulge herself to her heart’s content, she happily took advantage of her sister’s generosity.

She only pauses upon the return of her sister, the embodiment of gluttony sensing that something was bothering her sister despite the words that flowed from her mouth. Perhaps she to was disappointed in the lack of their kins presence, but she would not ask directly. Instead, she would be subtle or, at least, as subtle as she could be - which wasn’t much when in the presence of her brethren.

She smiles at Ophelia as she chirps out:

“Yasmayn can tell. They make good food. Sister should enjoy with Yasmayn. Unless something on mind. You can tell Yasmayn, you know?”

Manners Maketh Violence
Yasmayn's smile was enough to genuinely lift Ophelia's mood. It was a relief to know it hadn't been a complete and utter disaster on her part. Just being able to satisfy and please her sister was reassuring for her. She would have liked to have had more of the Sins join them, but this would do. Ophelia was used to doing things on a grand scale to impress many people, to receive their adoration and affection -- but in some ways this almost felt more meaningful.

Sliding into a seat across from Yasmayn, Ophelia hummed as she picked up and bit into one of the pastries that had been placed on the table. It was delightful, meeting the quality she had expected considering how much she was paying for the catering. After all, only the very best would do for her siblings. She couldn't disappoint them -- that just wouldn't do.

"I suppose... Hm. I am perhaps disappointed that more of our siblings didn't join us. I am overjoyed to have you here with me, undoubtedly, but I believe this would be even grander with the rest here as well. Nevertheless, I am happy you are enjoying the food and I am even happier to spend this time with you!" For Ophelia, honesty was always the only option. She wasn't one to lie or use subterfuge -- lying always had a way of making things more difficult and awkward than need be. She had observed time and time again how humans had created needless drama and violence by lying for no real reason that she could tell. For her, the truth came easy -- though, it was admittedly at the cost of her humility. "So, Yasmayn, I must ask -- what is your favorite food?" Ophelia inquired, legitimately curious. It had always seemed like the girl could eat anything without much fuss, but surely everyone had to have a preference... Even the Sin of Gluttony, no?

Yasmayn nods her head in understanding. Not all of her brethren were honest with among each other, some preferring to keep their cards rather close to their chest for one reason or another. So, she’s pleased that Ophelia would be so open with her. She also mentally pats herself on the back for being able to deduce what had bothered her dear sister. It seemed like her intensive exposure to the humans she mingled with had improved her thinking and deductive reasoning. Even her speech had improved, though her sentences were still rather choppy at best.

She delves no further than her sister’s explanation, the sin of gluttony seeing no reason to waste the time she spent with Ophelia on a rather depressing subject such as the absence of her siblings. So, she happily pounces on the change of subject her sister offers up. She practically perks up at her sister’s question, her mind quickly going through the various things she had consumed in her short life and determining what she had liked the most. And she concluded that despite having no personal vendetta against the humans, she actually liked them and went out of her way not to consume them indiscriminately, but she preferred their taste over all others.

“Humans!”

It was a revelation that others would find disturbing if she so casually announced such a fact amongst the population she had been bred to wrought chaos upon, but Ophelia was no human. So, Yasmayn felt perfectly safe in divulging her favorite dish to her sister.

“Yasmayn don’t eat ‘em often. Yasmayn tryna make friends. Made friend wit’ Crux. Nice guy. Buys food. Tryna good for him. Ophelia ever try ‘em?”

Oh.

Ophelia hadn’t been sure what answer she had been expecting but it wasn’t that. She fully understood Yasmayn was a demon, yes. And she also understood that, as the embodiment of Gluttony, she’d probably eat any and everything. But for humans to be her favorite dish actually threw Ophelia for a loop. Not because it was humans, but rather because she was trying to figure out how the small girl actually ate them.

After all, how could she feed Yasmayn her favorite dish if she couldn’t figure out how to best prepare it?

“Interesting…” She hummed, tapping her chin with a single finger as she pondered this. “No, I can’t say I’ve ever tried ‘human’. I’m afraid they’re… Probably not to my taste, but that is neither here nor yonder. What is most important is that, now that I know what you like most, I can give it to you!” She clasped her hands together in happiness. Yeah, there was probably something ‘wrong’ with this whole scenario, but Yasmayn wasn’t a human – she was a demon. So it wasn’t cannibalism or anything, so it was perfectly fine, right?

Right.

“It’s good that you’re making friends, especially with members of the Cross, no less! But, this is a party and here we’re meant to indulge ourselves!” She announced as she stood and almost in tandem with her words, the building shook. A furrowing of her eyebrows saw her rushing to the railing she previously leaned against and her eyes narrowed.

Down below, amidst all the guests, a fight had broken out. Bellicosa had been drawn and the Hallowed had finally snuffed out the Rebels and they were in open conflict. At her party. Her hands gripped the railing and the metal began to melt in response to her rage as she watched the Hallowed and Rebels fight, Sillage being used without a second thought as others ran for cover.

“It appears we have party crashers in our midst… I believe punishment is in order. And Yasmayn, feel free to eat to your heart’s content.” Ophelia said, looking back to her sister before she jumped over the railing. The air reacted to her command and allowed her to safely glide to the ground, landing with barely a sound. Flick of her wrist saw fire erupt from her hand and a wave of her arm ended with a wave of fire engulfing several individuals. “I don’t remember giving any of you invitations!” She announced as the Hallowed and Rebels were caught off-guard by her actions, a cruel smile making its way across her face.

Yasmayn beams at Ophelia as she swings her legs casually. She’s happy to listen to her sister and even happier to know that she was fine with her making nice with Crux commanders. With their enemies being many, the embodiment of gluttony hadn’t expected her siblings to be overjoyed with her decision to be friends with anyone and everyone regardless of affiliation. However, she received none of the rebuff that she was expecting. Instead, the siblings who knew seemed accepting of the fact and even encouraging, like Ophelia. Perhaps, she could do no wrong in the eyes of her siblings and if that was so, she was more than happy to take advantage of the fact.

She watches as her sister rises from her seat and, quite frankly, Yasmayn is prepared to request that her sister stay with her a little longer. However, before the words could leave her mouth the building shakes. Naturally, she perks up, the look in her eyes shifting to a what could only be seen as questioning. Yet, she deems it unlikely that Ophelia catches the look – her sister rushing over to the railing. Whilst her sister looks on at the commotion going on, the embodiment of gluttony slides out of her seat so that she too could see what the big fuss was about.

Although, she doesn’t even reach the railing before Ophelia speaks again. Yasmayn pauses and gives her sister a confused look. Her mind hardly has time to process her sister’s words before the sin of grandeur leaps over the disfigured railing. Quickly, she rushes to the railing and peeks her head over the ledge, the embodiment of gluttony wishing to see what had stolen her sister’s attention. She assumed that a fight had broken out amongst the guest. Humans were, after all, prone to unexpected burst of violence when they consumed too much juice. So, that could very well be the situation playing out below.

Yet, she found her assumption to be false and the truth far more interesting. Perhaps she had brought bad luck upon her sister’s party by mentioning Crux for one of the offenders was a hallowed – a mere attack dog in Crux. Whom they were fighting against and for what purpose, she could not discern. However, she could smell her sister’s displeasure – it smelt like burnt bodies – and, quite frankly, she felt sorry for the fools. She may not know Ophelia as well as she knew the other deadly sins, but something told her that the rude party-goers would regret their actions soon enough.

And, not one to pass up the opportunity to see a good one-sided fight, Yasmayn decides that to throw down some words of encouragement.

“Get ‘em, sis! Yasmayn say teach ‘em good lesson then dessert! Yes?”

Looking back up to Yasmayn, Ophelia nodded.

"Certainly!" She said with a slight bow, Ophelia having a natural flare for the dramatic. Looking back to the mixture of Hallowed and Rebels, she felt Sillage flow from her body. She felt alive. The glow of her eyes served as a visual indicator that she was preparing to attack and in an instant Bellicosa and demon-powered weapons were trained on her. Her grin was like that of a Cheshire cat as she extended her arms and a violent gust of wind blew towards the group, the razor wind cutting into them. The sight of blood brought Ophelia the satisfaction she craved and a flick of her wrist and snap of her fingers resulted in lightning arcing from her hand, crashing into a Hallowed with enough intensity to only leave ashes.

Raising her other hand, a wall of ice was erected in front of her to block the combined assault of magical projectiles. Looking over her shoulder, she raised her hand a series of rock erupted from the floor, forming a staircase that led to Yasmayn. "Feel free to join me." She said before looking back to the ice wall. Thrusting her hand towards the structure resulted in it shattering into spikes of ice that flew towards the group, skewering those that didn't that move and pinning them to a wall. A wave of her hand created a wave of fire that hung in the air around her like a wreath before she crouched down and slammed her palm on the floor.

Rock immediately rose from the ground and mixed with the fire before flowing towards the rebels. The wave of molten rock quickly consumed the the group as a gust of wind brushed against the Hallowed who attempted to take advantage of her assault on their initial targets. Ophelia knew she couldn't win in a close-quarters bout so she instinctively manipulated the wind to halt their advance. Despite this caution, her grin never faded. This was an excellent way of dealing with her frustration at the fact that so many of her siblings chose not to join she and Yasmayn.

Truthfully, Yasmayn had every intention of simply playing cheerleader and even narrator whilst her sister fought the party crashers. She did just that as she marveled at her sister’s uncanny ability to control the elements with such ease that it would make a human jealous. She sort of wondered what the rebel and hallowed thought as they faced off against her sister; she hoped stupid for being unable to control themselves in the home of a sin, especially a sin of Ophelia’s caliber. And with the mood her sister was in due to the other sins being unable or unwilling to grace the party with their presence, well, she could only imagine that any anger she felt would be taken out on the trespassers.

So, the embodiment of gluttony sat there and watched the scene unfold before her with a smile on her face. The child quite prepared to witness her sister inflict unimaginable pain upon the rebel and hallowed with an amount of glee that was just the perfect amount of unholy. And, once her sister’s aggression had been all used up, she would clean-up anything that remained – if anything remained. Thus, she’s taken by surprise when she’s invited to join Ophelia in the one-sided fight taking place. She hesitates for a moment, her mind slowly processing her sister’s actions and words. However, once her mind determines the intention of her sister, Yasmayn spurs forward – taking up Ophelia’s offer.

“Yasmayn helps Ophelia!”

She proclaims with a grin as she practically hops down the makeshift staircase. Upon hopping from the last step, Yasmayn quickly makes her way to her sister’s side. What help could she be? She did not know for the one who created her neglected to give her a weapon of some sort like it had her other siblings which left her as a pretty useless sin when there was nothing to consume, however she’s simply happy being next to her sister and if push comes to shove, she’d just take some of those flames Ophelia conjures up. Unless, of course, the party crashers decided to finally fight back.

Which would be a difficult task given Ophelia’s assault. Unless they banded together to take down their common enemy, they were better off simply lying down and taking whatever punishment her sister dealt them or hightailing it out of there while they still breathed. What they decided to do meant nothing to Yasmayn. However, to increase the threat against their lives and, maybe, spur them to actually entertain her sister in some capacity, the embodiment of gluttony decides to inject herself into the fray.

She consumes some of the wind Ophelia uses to assault the rebel and hallowed, giving them a relatively short reprieve from the strength of her sister’s powers before adding onto it upon exhaling. Though, where Ophelia could keep it up for an undetermined amount of time, Yasmayn could only assist so long as she had wind left in her belly. But, it truly didn’t matter. Her sister was an elementalist and thus the perfect person to fuel the embodiment of gluttony.

When Yasmayn announced she'd be helping her, Ophelia couldn't help but smile. She was overjoyed to have her sibling join her in demolishing the rude interlopers who had crashed her party. Ophelia had to admit, the Hallowed and Rebels had lucked out by none of the other Sins having decided to show up or she was certain their suffering would have been magnified.

And she watched in wonder as Yasmayn began to consume the wind before exhaling to strengthen the violent tempest. Humming quietly, Ophelia watched as the Hallowed were blown even further away and some of them even suffered even greater injuries from the pressure. And as the Hallowed and Rebels suffered, Ophelia couldn't help but feel her frustration fading.

Inflicting pain and misery upon the party crashers was extremely cathartic, she had to admit. While she wasn't one to take pleasure in making other suffer like say, Onyx, she did enjoy exerting her power over others. There was something about dominating those who were clearly weaker than her that was just enjoyable.

"Amazing, Yasmayn." She praised her sister before waving a hand, wall of flame materializing just in time to incinerate a hail of arrows that attempted to skewer the both of them. And as the flames dispersed, she eyed the remaining Hallowed and Rebels with a superiority in her gaze that made it clear that, as far as she was concerned, they were beneath the both of them. Flicking her wrist, she caused walls of ice to erupt from the ground, blocking the exits. "You are beaten! The only thing left for you to do is submit!" She called out to them, unable to resist the chance to be dramatic and theatrical.

"But! If you'd still rather not accept your place and serve your betters... I'll offer you a chance at freedom! You came here to kill one another, no? So do that! Do that and I'll free whichever group is left standing!" She announced maliciously, the grin on her face making it clear she knew just how cruel her offer was. Neither group was truly in the position to fight, but she knew humans.

She had been human, so she understood. And, after what seemed to only be seconds of deliberation, the two groups turned one another another. Despite the trauma they had all received, they didn't hesitate to fight one another. Their pride wouldn't allow them to submit, and wrath was an easy emotion to manipulate.

"Look at them, Yasmayn. So simple. They'd rather tear themselves apart than ever surrender. Would you say that is admirable, or perhaps just foolish?"

Submit. Between that or continuing the fight amongst each other that had originally captured the hostess attention then the choice the trespassers should have picked was the former. Certainly, their life as the dedicated servants of her sister wouldn’t be anything to write home about, but at least they would have a clue of what they were getting themselves into and their survival was assured up until the point they did something to forfeit it. However, the odd creatures that had so rudely intruded upon a party they had no business being at and causing a ruckus that led to this mess, the groups decided to fight it out. Truly, it was astonishing to see how quickly they were to turn on each other when freedom was dangled in front of their face without an idea of what it entailed.

For all they knew, the freedom her sister offered was the sort that most humans, strangely enough, feared with all their being. Death. And although there was a chance that Ophelia really meant that she would allow the winning group to leave the manor without another hair on their head being harmed, the embodiment of gluttony highly doubted that. It was simply too… kind and although some sins were friendlier than others, they all had a sadistic bone in their body - no matter how small that bone may be. After all, sowing the seed of chaos was what they had been made to do and, from what Yasmayn could tell, most of them took a unholy amount of glee doing so - even her.

So, with the nagging feeling that neither group would be leaving the manor alive, Yasmayn crosses her arms and watches the fight amongst the group. She shakes her head as she says:

“Humans weird. Make stupid choice. Should just submit. Easier.”

Her eyes break away from the group just as a rebel is taken down by a hallowed, her gaze locking onto her sister’s form.

“You use human, right? You miss or sin better than…”

She waves her hand at the fight occurring before them.

“this? Come lots perks too. Never turn on Ophelia. Like human do.”

She tilts her head to the side, her focus entirely on her sister as the fight became nothing more than background noise. It didn’t matter which group would survive the encounter if Ophelia meant what she thought she meant by ‘freedom’. Instead, she waits for her sister to answer her. After all, Ophelia’s pass experience as a human provided her with an insight that few of the original sins possessed. And so, she was fairly interested and what she had to say on the matter.
