Apocrypha, Demon Knight
Weiss Schnee, RWBY
Bandages cover her arms and legs to protect her from frostbite in Seracier.
Sage's sword, Morglay, is the weapon she has used since she was first trained for battle; an extremely well-crafted heirloom that has served her from day to day faithfully for many years. Constructed of the highest grade steel and treated with expensive oils, Morglay would fetch a pretty penny on any market. The jet black blade is broad and heavy, the edges kept dull to reduce the amount of maintenance the weapon needs on a daily basis. As such, it has very little slashing power on its own, but combined with its weight and Sage's speed, it is capable of slicing through mundane material as easily as a normal blade might.
The cross guard features a gold-faceted emblem bearing the monarchy's crest, and the pommel is light, putting the center of weight somewhere near the tip of the blade.
Arch-Demon: Furcas the Knight
The Arch-Demon that Sage was allowed to contract with in the final moments of the old monarchy. A demon of Furcas' caliber bestows upon her a number of strengthened abilities in the realm of physical prowess: Furcas himself being a devout warrior - and maybe even a little honorable, if one could say such about a demon.
Though the basics - increased strength and speed, for example - are there, the truly fascinating aspect about this power is Sage's ability to manipulate her body through the shunting of sillage from key points in her armature. This allows her to perform extreme maneuvers in 3D, such as sudden lateral movement, double or triple jumps, and instant pivoting. It is the equivalent of having on-demand vernier rockets positioned on her body, and additionally, she can augment strikes and otherwise use the energy to soften blows as well.
She is able to use these jets to cover Morglay - her sword - in a sheen of sillage, allowing her to pierce or slash through material that would normally break the weapon. Through this method she can also "extend" the blade several meters without adding additional weight to the blade, allowing her to cut swaths through infantry formations easily.
Though her swordsmanship was already considered top-notch to begin with, allying with Furcas has developed her mastery in a way that can only be called legendary. She's assimilated many styles both from when she was professionally trained, and in the years following her exile. Along with her contract's powers, she's developed her own high-maneuverability technique that is confounding and deadly, especially when matched against the inexperienced or formations of two or more.
Interrupted Human Physiology
Sage is simply human. If it weren't for the powers of Furcas enhancing her body, she would be a frail woman by now, long past her prime and even middle age. However, by making the contract with Furcas, she remains as physically fit and youthful as she was when she contracted with the Arch-Demon in the first place. However, she is not immortal by any means, and if even counting her increased strength and speed, her body is still only a human's. That means she must take the utmost care not to get hit by anything at all.
A royal might be expected to be more haughty or arrogant, especially due to their standing in society. However, Sage has managed to avoid that stereotype splendidly, due to the fact that her position as fourth in line to inherit the throne leaves her with little actual influence. Of course, it would be folly to say that she has no influence, but it certainly is pitiful when compared to the heir apparent, and as a result she has no particular need to flaunt her status above anyone else.
She considers herself particularly lucky for that reason. If she had been any more important, she would have never been the one to find herself trapped in the Izoard estate with her Arch-Demon, Furcas, whom she gets along splendidly with. Her diligence and sense of duty matches up well with her Arch-Demon's nature, even though Furcas has essentially become her master for time immemorial.
She takes her swordplay very seriously and admittedly, she believes that she is incredibly good at it. She knows quite a bit about royal protocol and etiquette as well, but hasn't had the opportunity to demonstrate it for many years.
Sage worries that if she finds the remainder of her family, that they would question how she has managed to remain so youthful over the past few decades. Of course, she can attribute that solely to her contract, but she's slightly afraid of being chastised even after she's become an adult.
The kingdom that once ruled Sium is now more of a historical footnote than anything else, though their influence still remains in small pockets across the continent. Among those who swear allegiance to the ways of old, most are tethered to the rebel group Apocrypha by way of their end goal, rather than the ideals that form said goals. An even smaller portion among those were part of the ruling class back in the old days, and that is where Sage lies.
Sage is the fourth daughter of the Izoard family, one of the royal families known to have controlled portions of Sium based on a long hereditary line of ownership. Being the fourth daughter in such a family tended to offer very little in the way of inheritance, as it were, yet the role was perceived as very valuable as far as being a political tool goes. She was to be a "back-up", in case the rule of her elder siblings went awry for any reason. In peaceful times, that might have relegated her to a very mundane life.
Yet that was not the case - with the threat of the burgeoning group known as Crux Fidelis gaining popular support, Sage found herself undergoing the very same courtly regimen that her siblings had. The instability of the realm itself coupled with the mounting pressure of the Cross would soon splinter Sium, and in that case, Sage would have to fend for herself. For that reason, she was kept closely monitored and was instructed daily in self-defense and survival.
As indeed, when she was barely into her teens, civil war erupted around Sium, with Crux Fidelis deposing the nobility by force. The Izoards, at the highest echelon, were rich enough to hold their grounds for some time with their personal guard, yet nonetheless found their home keep besieged by the Cross. Knowing the fate that was to befall them should they be captured, the remainder of the Izoard family fled the estate selfishly, leaving only the majordomo and the youngest daughter Sage to seal the exits behind them and defend the grounds for as long as they could.
In the process of fleeing, however, the Izoards left behind their closest allies as well; including the Arch-Demon Furcas. The demonic knight, furious at their cowardly display, stormed into the keep himself to confront anyone left - and found only Sage, who had in her filial piety had essentially sacrificed herself to protect the Izoard line. Realizing that neither of them might escape alone, Furcas offered Sage an opportunity: contract with him and break through the lines so that one day she might come to glory, or perish here with him. Taking her chances, she accepted with no knowledge of what she was giving in return.
The swath she cut through the encirclement then was so impressive - especially for a girl of her age and stature - that she was given the epithet "Sword Saint". However, no one would see more of the Sword Saint for many years, along with the Izoard family as a whole. When the rebel group Apocrypha first emerged, however, Sage was quick to emerge from her hermitage and offer her services.
Some forty years later, Sage is one of the scarce few survivors of the civil war, still biding her time as the organizations have both sized up considerably around her. Although her focus is still to restore the Izoard family name, the threat of the Poena Damni and the Cabal she perceives as the more pressing matter at hand.
